Glamping weekend – Scandinavian style

In september 2021 we went glamping for a weekend in Lochem, Overijssel. Lochem is a small town in the Netherlands but close to the German boarder. The glamping camp is called “Oetdoor” and it offers a combination of tipi-tents and free campspaces. Obviously we came for the Scandinavian Glamping experience, so we stayed in a cozy tipi! It’s optional to book a breakfast basket, but I definitely recommend booking this. It’s full of fresh products from the around the region and it offers a good variety for 2 proper breakfasts.

Considering it was the first weekend of september, we expected it to still be pretty warm outside. Oh boy, were we wrong! Mornings and nights were really chilly. Especially when you need to visit the toilet in the middle of the night. Since the tipi tents don’t have a private bathroom next to it, you just have to walk to the building where they have hot showers and toilets. Don’t forget to bring your flip flops.

Back to basic

After we arrived Friday afternoon, we soon realised we were not prepared at all. Mom (who gave us this weekend for our birthday) booked the breakfast basket for the 2 mornings and I brought a few snacks. Knowing us, that was not gonna keep us full until the next morning. So after we (Wiss) fixed our bonfire, I hurried to the supermarket for some groceries. Once this was done we could really settle in and heat up at the fireplace. They give everyone quite a big bag of wood to use for the fire, but you can always buy extra if needed. We had enough for 2 nights and one morning.

Nature in the Netherlands, simple but beautiful

The glamping camp offers free usage of paddle boards, canoes and bikes which is great to explore the area. Just make sure you book a time slot to use them once you arrive, or you’ll have no choice left. During the first day we went for a walk in the forest nearby, which was really nice! Later that afternoon we took the bicycles for a little ride to get some goodies for our barbecue that night. Not to show off but we killed it, the fish and seafood from the fire were so good. There is one fireplace for 2 tents so we shared it with our neighbours.

Epic brekkie in the making

Since we had some wood left Wiss made one last fire to prepare some eggs and toast on the fire. After another brekkie of champions we still didn’t manage to finish the breakfast basket, and we are definitely not small eaters. After we organised and cleaned up the tent we went paddle boarding in the ditches nearby the glamping camp.

Perfect morning

It’ s also possible to book some time in a hot tub with champaign, but we were too late to register for the nice time slots so we skipped it. I would recommend booking it in advance to make sure you’ll have the best experience!

We really enjoyed the Oetdoor glamping camp, being surrounded by nature and going back to (relatively) basic is always a good way to recharge.

On our way back we passed by a pumpkin farm and I had to stop since it looked so cute. They had pumpkins in every colour and form, I had never seen so many different types of pumpkins! There was nobody home but they had a system where you could just pay the amount in a box. Seeing people who trust others blindly give me some faith in society 🙂
