Unique stays and holiday homes in the Netherlands

There are a lot of unique stays and holiday accommodations in the Netherlands. I keep being surprised on the number of holiday parks and campings in this tiny country. I personally am terrible in making a decision, so I really love ready made lists to choose from. In case you are like me, this list of unique places in the Netherlands where I have been or which are on my bucket list, might come in handy.

1. Tiny house in the woods of the Veluwe

The popularity of tiny houses has grown tremendously and there are still more and more holiday parks building these. The concept of minimal living has gained popularity over the years as well. Staying in a tiny house for a few nights offers the perfect getaway and chance to explore this lifestyle. This house can be booked via Villa for you. It has a minimalistic but cozy interior and is located in the beautiful Veluwe, surrounded by nature.

2. Bed & Breakfast with Alpacas

Bed & Breakfast de Raamberg is a cute accommodation owned by a very friendly family. The B&B is located on a farm where they have a couple of Alpacas as well. If you like, you can feed the Alpacas during your stay, they are so fluffy. There is not much to do in the vicinity of the house, but if you have enough time you can go for a long walk. They even organise walking tours with the alpacas in summer. We visited this B&B around easter so it was still quite cold.

3. Safari Resort Beekse Bergen

Well, this must be one of the most unexpected and unique experiences we have in the Netherlands. Sleeping at a safari park, surrounded by animals, who would have thought that would be possible in the Netherlands. They have a variety of accommodation types, from their Lake Resort to their Safari Resort and their recently opened Safari Hotel. I haven’t had the chance to go myself yet, but heard great stories!

4. Waterlodge at Resort de Parel

Resort de Parel used to be a regular camping in Zeewolde, but it has completely changed in the past few years. De Parel now offers a variety of beautiful and unique accommodations. From fancy glamping tents to wooden chalets and this amazing waterlodge including sauna! They even offer special workation accommodations, how cool is that?! The area around Resort de Parel is very green so it is a great location to walk and /or bike. Check availability here.

5. Treehouse in Limburg

This treehouse by EuroParcs is pretty basic, but don’t you agree that it’s super cute? You’ll find this treehouse in the hills of Limburg. It’s basically on top of the Gulperberg, as the name of the park already reveals. This park is the perfect place to stay if you want to combine a citytrip to Maastricht with the glorious hills of Limburg. Besides tree houses there are also some cute tiny houses here.

6. Glamping Oetdoor, a Scandinavian experience

The Oetdoor Scandinavian glamping experience is located in de Achterhoek. This spot is perfect for a getaway with your partner or friends. You can go fully back to basics here by cooking above a bonfire and sleeping in a tipi glamping tent. There are various activities for which you can register upon arrival. We chose to rent bikes for an afternoon and a SUP board for the next morning.

7. Heavens Hotel in Hoorn

Heavens Hotel is built in a former church, which is certainly something different! This church in Hoorn has been fully transformed into a stylish hotel with a luxurious touch. The hotel opened recently, so everything is still very new. Hoorn is a city you may not think of, but it’s actually really lovely and you won’t come across that many tourists. Check availability here.

8. Asile Flottant, house boat hotel in Amsterdam

Asile Flottant is located in Amsterdam North next to Cafe de Ceuvel. We stayed here during the COVID period in wintertime and it was such a romantic experience. Their boats have been turned into beautiful little apartments and each one of them is unique. We booked a full experience including dinner and breakfast, which was all made of fresh products, very tasty. I’m not sure if they still offer all of this, but even just spending a night here is a lovely experience. Definitely a good idea for a special celebration in Amsterdam.

9. Glamping in a tipi tent

This Glamping tipi tent just has it all, it’s decorated in a cozy boho-chique style and offers all the comfort you need. For those who want a fancy camping experience, this is a very good option. The tipi is surrounded by nature where you can go for a long walk, get active in a canoe or enjoy the views from a bike.

Natuurhuisje promotes sustainable tourism and focuses on traveling to places nearby your home. They have a wide variety of holiday homes, many of which are owned by individuals or small-scale holiday parks. Whether you are looking for a tiny house, a house boat or a big family house on a farm, you will find it all here. Besides houses (huisjes) in the Netherlands, they also have places in Belgium, Germany, France and more.

10. Step into a fairytale at the Efteling

If you’re into fairytales and rollercoasters, you have to visit the Efteling in the Netherlands. It’s a unique theme park, which includes the fairytale forest and many dreamy attractions. The park can get quite busy, so it’s even better to stay the night and take your time to discover everything the park has to offer. They even say that Walt Disney was inspired by the Efteling. You can choose between a hotel room or various holiday homes. Check availability and prices for a magical stay at Efteling here.
